Some of these artists are accused of selling out, others are said to be suffering from the affliction of having attracted fans who themselves suffer from an elitist snobbery that doesn't allow them to appreciate music that has acheived mainstream success.

As, year after year, we watch Britney Spears lose more and more clothes in an attempt to use her cheap 'n trampy image to somehow rescue dwindling record sales we have to ask ourselves, "Sex may sell, but shouldn't the music sell itself?"

It seems like it wasn't that long ago that the world was laughing at the verbal and social ineptitude of American presodent George Bush, now it seems the tables have turned and it's an American president - Mr Obama - doing the laughing. In response to Kanye West's recent deplorable behaviour at the MTV Music Awards - the idiot interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech to say that Beyonce, not Swift, should have won - Barack Obama referred to Kanye West as, "a Jackass." This isn't the first time Kanye's gotten attention for his oftimes ridiculous behaviour. Let's look back and see what else Mr West has been up to.

Well, we all knew it had to happen. Michael Jackson was a celebrity and therefore there was no chance he would be allowed to pass in peace. Nope, we had to go through the inevitable drama of conspiracy before we'd be allowed to let go of the Prince of Pop in a dignified manner. So now we go through the accusations of murder, ill-intent and faked deaths, and we may be going through these for years, even decades to come. After all it's been 12 years (to the day) since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and we still here new facts (and tinfoil hat theories) in that case to this day.

I don't know if any of you have heard of one Phil Tripp. I know I hadn't until recently when I found out that he's apparently coming to South Africa to give a talk at the Moshito music Event on the how-to's of global music export. My first reaction when reading this was, of course, "who the [expletive] is Phil Tripp!?"
